That's My Jam: Grazin' in the Grass

I'm thinking about starting a new semi-regular thing around here where I link to songs that I love and will not apologize for adoring regardless of how dated, overplayed, hokey, or just plain cheesy they might be. And if that's the game, there's no better place to start than with this classic from the Friends of Distinction -- a song I desperately wish I could sing along with but usually ends up in failures so epic that Viking legends are written about them.
"..And lo, despite his best intentions, Dan set the state of Caucasian soul back fifty years when he decided to drunkenly step up to the karaoke mic and sing, "I can dig it he can dig it whiskey biscuit mickey brisket slippy disc-it.."
Great tune. Always makes me smile.
So, what are some of the songs you'll never apologize for?

Songs I'll Never Apologize For:
- Union of the Snake by Duran Duran
- pretty much any Foreigner single
- Robert Palmer's sexy trilogy
- Rock Me Amadeus
- Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) by Motley Crue

Looking at this, it's totally 80s.

"Higher" by Creed
"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion
"Doin the Do' by Betty Boo
"Rivers of Babylon" by Boney M*

There are probably a million others. You should never be afraid to admit you like something. If you like it, that's all that matters!

*actually, pretty much anything by Boney M

Windy (The Association)
Indian Reservation (Paul Revere & the Raiders)
Too many others to list, but those will do for now.

I'm also proud to say I got the DJ at the hippest bar on the LES to play Tom Sawyer last Friday. The whole song. :)

Dude, those back up ladies have some MOVES. I can dig it.

Songs I won't apologize for (but clearly understand that I should):

"Can't Stop" by After 7 (watch and love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_ImNi_oDtI)

"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by The Looking Glass (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-dleViv2nc)

"Sara" by Starship (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahX-lxAywOQ)

and "Mad About You" by Belinda Carlisle, the video for which planted a seed of infatuation with Ms. Carlisle that I carry to this day. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXj0QcSDVRE)

WIGSF -- Although it took me a while to get past their pretty boy pop stardom, I have mad love for the music of Duran Duran. For a while they had a couple of Ex-Frank Zappa players in the band as well, which led to some very interesting tunes.

Some of Robert Palmer's older (pre Addicted to Live) stuff is really good too.

Adam -- there are a million of these, which is why this feature will probably be back again soon.

Satorical -- Windy is a great song, but it's a total earworm. Did you do that on purpose?

Jersey -- Livin on a Prayer is a hard song to resist when you hear it at a bar. I remember it being fun to play on guitar too.

Monster -- wow, you hit a bunch of my secret faves there, including "Mad About You" -- but in my case it was mainly for the video, because girl was hot hot hot back in the day.

ps - I thought I was the only one who had to make sure no one is looking when I catch myself singing along to "Sara" -- although when you talk about classic rock tunes I LOVE, Jefferson Starships "Find Your Way Back" is right there near the top (and I'll never apologize for that one).

Mad About You is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a good pop song, and Melinda was HAWT when she cut that thing. I've considered covering it punk stylee a bunch, but someone's probably done it.

If it is a guilty pleasure, I'm guilty.

Here are some guilty songs from me:

This Love- Maroon 5 oh cheesy white boy songs. Hmm.

Genie in a bottle- Christina Aguilera. Throw Beautiful on there too.

Hard Knock Life- Jay-Z- thugs plus broadway musicals. What's not to like?

any pop pablum from Pink. Get this party started, uh Just like a pill.

All kinds of terrible J-pop, including anything by Brilliant Green.

Rock Me Amadeus was pretty good whatigotsofar. I like that stuff.
